During my four years working at the Union I've accrued a lot of experience working with Union staff, venues, and both student and external acts. From the first Friday of the first week of my first year, I've been working in Venue 1 as a member of Ents Crew (the voluntary sub-committee in charge of running union events). I started out on Bop lighting, learning how the venue works. After a few months, I had the skills to start training other Ents how to program the main lighting desk.
This was also where I learnt to DJ and since then I've been a regular Bop DJ, even getting a private gig now and then. In the last year I've transitioned to be the go-to-guy for Rewind over the Bop. Whilst I love the challenge involved in mixing a seamless dance set, I'm a sucker for the cheese.
Outside Ents, I've been a member of geeky societies my entire time at St Andrews. SciFa, the Science Fiction and Fantasy Society, were incredibly welcoming. Having a chance to talk to great people who share my interest in all things Space-y really makes my week ... even if they do get me to fix the projector and sound system nearly every time I'm there.
